WinChart® Update History

Information regarding the changes to WinChart® version 4 are given below:

Build 4-16, 4 January 2012:

OpenOffice link bug fix: The feature to make multiple charts at once (see File menu) from an OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet now works.

Build 4-15, 18 June 2011:

  • WinChart can now read data from OpenOffice Calc and Base, via the usual DataWizard (accessed via the File menu, and 'Attach External Data'). For Calc spreadsheet files click on "OpenOffice Calc Files" and follow the instructions; this will be similar to reading Excel spreadsheets. For Base databases click on "Use Other Databases" and select "OpenOffice Base" in the list given.

    • Note for Calc: if you are reading Excel files from Calc then we would recommend first opening the Excel files in Calc and then saving them as ODF Spreadsheets (.ods) and reading the .ods files from WinChart. This will then reduce reading time considerably, as the conversion from Excel formats only has to be done once.

    • Note for Base: WinChart can only read from registered databases. To register a database in OpenOffice Base, click on the Tools menu and select Options. In the new window, in the list on the left, double-click on the "OpenOffice.org Base" entry to show two sub entries, one of which is "Databases". Click on "Databases" to view the existing registered databases. There is a button called "New" to add an existing Base database to the list of registered databases. In WinChart, after selecting "OpenOffice Base" as above (and clicking on Next), the     registered databases will be shown in the "Database Name" drop-down list.

For both Calc and Base, reading from OpenOffice files for the first time will be quicker if the 'OpenOffice.org QuickStarter' is already running (see OpenOffice Tools menu. then select Options. Under "OpenOffice.org" and "Memory" there is the option for the QuickStarter). Please note that WinChart has been tested with OpenOffice.org version 3.2.1.

  • The PowerPoint Help presentations can now be printed out more easily. They are in the Help Files Folder (accessible via the Windows Start menu, Programs, WinChart folder, and then selecting "Open Help Files Folder"): "Using Aliases Print.pps" and "Dicing & Slicing Print.pps". Right-click on them and choose Print in the menu.

  • There is also a bug fix (related to the "callee" problem referred to below): when closing WinChart via the 'X' in the top right-hand corner, WinChart would not close properly. This has now been fixed.

  • Two days ago we uploaded WinChart Build 4-14, 16 June 2011. We mentioned that the Calc ods files might need to be closed while WinChart reads them. This is false: they can be open or closed. There is a bug in Vista which was causing problems and has now been fixed. This newer WinChart Build 4-15 should be installed to replace 4-14.

Build 4-13, 12 May 2011:

Only minor changes: an error sometimes occurred when opening a WinChart file with a server licence.

Build 4-12, 26 August 2010:

Only minor changes: some information messages were improved, and the ability to run both WinChart 3.8 and WinChart 4 over a server to enable a gradual upgrading process if required.

Build 4-11, 04 June 2010:

The following changes were made:

  • On a few PCs, when WinChart closed an error message "The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and disappeared ..." was shown, and WinChart did not close down properly. This problem has now been fixed. (Numerous mentions of this message on the Internet would appear to suggest that it was not unique to WinChart or The Performance Dashboard.)

  • When trying to harmonise various features (via the Chart menu, Harmonise Charts), the option to harmonise the orientation (good/bad) of The Performance Dashboard symbols sometimes did not appear. This was due to the fact that originally The Performance Dashboard had to be installed for the symbols to work, but this was later changed. This bug has now been fixed.

Build 4-08, 12 Feb 2010:

This was the initial version 4
